My Living Room: MAJA Before and After

This room in our home has seen a lot of change. It began as a big off-white space with loads of sunlight and potential. Hand-me-downs and a few new pieces didn't quite fill the space, or my vision.
Check out the progress here

Over the past year I've been working on making it more comfortable, casual, and cozy while still chic. I am thrilled with the way it has come together, and we now spend loads of time here, especially when the little man goes to sleep. This sofa is the best place to curl up to watch TiVo with a glass of wine! Henry has the run of the basement living area (more on that space soon!), and it's so nice to have an adult room to relax in.

Our main new pieces are the sofa and chairs. I knew exactly what I wanted and these fit the bill when I found them. I already had the coffee table and end tables and all of the lamps, but had the pine console table made by a dealer at Scott's.
The rug is new-ish ....an indoor/outdoor one that doesn't show traffic or, lets face it, dog hair.

I fell pretty hard for the drapery fabric right when I saw it. So, to frame the large windows and enhance the view of the lake and trees outside, I had double width panels made...I love how they finish the room.

I found the large lantern at Scott's too, and had the clean-lined parsons etageres built to fit the spaces flanking the fireplace.

These lamps were once oil jugs on my grandfather's farm. I had them made into lamps and simply love them. The worn, rustic trunk under the table was a score{!} from my sister in-law.

The mirror was found at a second-hand shop and I painted the frame myself - gray with a gold edge. The large blue and white jars, gold wall sconce, and garden seat were grabbed along the way.

I love a bit of a collected feel, especially on a mantel. I pulled some things together to create an interesting organic collection....a few stems from the yard, cork covered votives, an olive tray from a trip my parents took, a watercolor of Rome, Italy, and an old turtle shell found in an antique shop.

The dining space has seen a bit of a fluff as of late, too. And has also seen a big change since we bought our home. Check all of that out here
And a few more deets here.

Due to a very active, walking 10 1/2 month old, a few months ago I had to ditch my bar cart for the time being. And now that Henry is over 12 months, he's super fast so it was a good idea not to have those glasses and bottles with such easy access anymore.
So, the pine armoire saw a little stylin' action.

I {finally} got my bamboo chairs for the heads of my table! After longing for them for probably 6 years, I am now the proud owner. I love them, and have a feeling they'll be moved around quite a bit.

Now that they've come to live with us, I may have to find a bigger rug for them to sit on.
ah.
the list goes on and on.

Hope you guys have a great weekend!
See you next week!
xoxo

  2. It looks truly amazing!! I adore the fact that you upcycled the big jugs into lamps. They are beautiful! Love your curtains. I need to add curtains to my home still and am always shopping around for some that I love.

  3. It is such a gorgeous room!! Would you mind sharing where you found the outdoor rug? It looks great in photos! And I love the neutrality and contemporary vibe and the fact that its "easy care." I have 3 boys and a dog and I just tossed my jute one because its never clean! Thank you!!
