A Precious Powder Room: Before and After

The next space on the list was the powder room - this is the only bath on the main level, and since this cute little family as well as their guests use this one the most, it needed to be more special. Here's the BEFORE:
- walls needed lightening
- mirror needs replacing
- a colorful rug is needed too

AFTER
The walls are now a pale bluish gray - much lighter and brighter. I recommended painting the walls and ceiling all the same color to really feel like the small space is larger than it appears.

A bright rug was brought in for added color!

And a classic bamboo shelf was placed over the potty to hold a few accessories and other essentials.

Bright artwork in simple white frames mimic the happy feel of the powder room, and bring in the color from the family room.

Also on the list: Painting the hallway and handrail to make it feel a bit more modern.
BEFORE

BEFORE:
New rugs were needed in a maja way

AFTER:
A pretty gray is now on the walls, the handrails are painted black, and precious family photos now hang.
Oh, and a super fun indoor/outdoor rug lays on the floor  - to add some color and to withstand heavy traffic from the little ones and other guests too.

Stay tuned for a precious little girl's room soon!

A Darling Den: Before and After

A few months ago, I began working with a client who's got a young family with two little girls. This busy mom of two and her hubs work hard and manage to keep their house running smoothly - its amazing! But they lacked the finishing touches on their home. Keeping in mind they could move over the next year, I helped with things that could be taken with them and would work in another home as well. With mostly neutral backgrounds on the upholstery, we decided that the art and fabrics would bring in our color.
The main spaces we concentrated on were the family room (top left on the collective mood board), the powder room (top right), the older child's room, and the master bedroom.

First on the list: The Family Room
We were working with a neutral sofa (keep), a dark rug (go), the man of the home's comfy recliner (keep, for now), and two club chairs (to recover).
The walls had recently been painted a deep chocolate - one of my favorite colors - and we decided to leave them this way.

We also needed to dress these windows a bit as they are the only source of natural light here.

Artwork above the sofa was desperately needed - we needed a better scale, some centering, and something with color.

Lamps were on the list too - a pair for the two accent tables in the room.
A coffee table seemed apropos as well.

And here's the {if I do say so myself} adorable family room AFTER.

A neutral rug grounds the space and withstands the traffic of two little ones, while the coffee table gives an anchor in front of the sofa.
The bright pillows and artwork make the room feel like a young family lives here too!
And those club chairs got a much needed neutral makeover.

I love the fabric we chose for the windows - fun but could work in another space too. I made them extra long in case of a move, so they'd be able to be used in another house. The gray ikat pillows pull from the kitchen window treatments - you'll see those later in this post.

I loved these mirrors and simple pottery flanking the TV....again, they can certainly work in another space down the line.

I took an abstract cue on the art and broke out my watercolors for craft time. :)
Love the colors.

The coffee table makes a big difference here too. The painted gray finish is nice and neutral, and can withstand little hands too.

The pillows I brought in pulled our colors together...they are fun and fresh without being too trendy.

The family room is in a long shared space with the kitchen, so it needed some love too. Valances on the windows were on the list as were cushions for the breakfast table chairs.
