Home for the Holidays

Hope you guys are all having a fabulous holiday season with your family and friends!
A few weekends ago, we had the big family gathering on my husband's side, hosted by my sister in law. Her house is beautiful, and we've had a ball doing her interiors along the way!
She and my mother in law gave it some Christmas fluff...it was festive, and fun for the occasion, and I wanted to share a bit of her holiday cheer!!
Enjoy!

Living Room Switcheroo

Remember my sister in law's gorgeous living room from last week?
Here's her other living space's transformation too!

The BEFORE:

And the AFTER:

Much more balanced and polished.
Proportionately, rearranging this room made a HUGE difference.
We didn't add anything "new" here except the small chair and ottoman....again, from Grandmother's house. :)
The cute club chair and ottoman had an original chintz on it. It was positively vintage, but we needed it to be more in tune with the fun concept we had for this room. A soft gray canvas duck suits the room perfectly.

Moving the lamps and bamboo tables in from the other room, as well as the coffee table, now gives us a sense of balance and symmetry. Flanking the mirror, prints and plates balance the large wall.

The antique camel back sofa, a piece from Mimi (the other grandmother), was kept classic with a black and white ticking stripe.... not that the navy and maroon original upholstery didn't work. ;)

I found these arm chairs at an antique mall...the lines were fun, and they begged me for a makeover.
A can of white spray paint + black and white spots = insta-glam

The gold and white damask dhurrie rug pulls the whole room together, adding a layer of softness.

I scooted the antique buffet to the small wall near the front door and added a little vignette with vases, boxes, books, and artwork.
Maja personality punch!

Have you recovered any of your grandmother's furniture?
Or do you have a lot of her pieces in your home?

A living room re-do: Before & After

I've been working with this client for some time now...getting our lists made, a few family furniture  pieces recovered, a few things painted, new stuff ordered....and now I am thrilled to show you what progress we've made.

It's been an extra fun project as my client is my sister in law. :)

We've had fun getting this done together, and I am excited to show you guys how far its come.

Here's the BEFORE:

And the DURING:

And now the AFTER:

Now, the room feels much more pulled together, finished, and polished.

We had the two old wing backs, Grandmother's chairs (literally), recovered to now flank the fireplace.
And an time tested sofa got a maja makeover with a new basket weave linen. Color from the lamps and pillows give fun accents to the otherwise neutral room.

Here it is again.
That fabulous hide that can be found in many of my interiors. ;)
This time, it's a gold flecked albino hide layered over a fabo jute rug and under an even more fabo acrylic coffee table.
Hubba hubba.

It's sophisticated, classic, and a little bit glam.
Like the homeowner herself.

A few detail shots:

Oh, and in case you guys missed it, here's another peek at the awesome gallery wall in the entry.
I had a ball planning this spot and laying out all the pieces....many of them heirlooms, painted by family.

Stay tuned for more on her house next week!
