A Family Office Space

I loved working on this room! It was an empty space, with nothing that seemed to help the form or the function that this sweet mom of 3 knew that her family needed.

Now, its a room with functional cabinetry for mom, dad, and the 3 kiddos. I love the fun shade of green-gray on the cabinetry with pops of orange in the new window seat. And the fun brass hardware really pops against the color of the woodwork. A few Britt Bass prints on the wall keep it lively!
Acrylic desk chairs and a rustic pendant light highlight that "mix" that I love to do...spice things up with the unexpected piece!

Enjoy!

She always amazes me with the way she captures my spaces!

One Fun Family's Dining Room

Now that I've shared the living room and keeping room with you guys,  I wanted to share more of this fun historic house, oozing with charm and details and natural light. The dining room got a little re-fresh with new paint, window treatments, a gorgeous chandy, all over those incredible freshly-refinished floors.

Here are a few peeks around the space!

(ps. see last week's post for more on this house!)

The room is separated from the living room by those gorgeous stained French doors.
{Swoon}

My client has the most fun artwork to chose from, many of which has been done by close family and friends. This pair of countryside oils was just the right color punch for this corner.
And raise your hand if you're as obsessed with Belgian linen panels as I am?!?!?
They literally work in every space. (That's why you guys see them in my rooms so much!)

Love this little peek from the living room to the dining room.
And that you can see our punches of black around the house. Black adds prominence and sophistication to a room...especially via an antique tole platter and antique table and chairs.

On the other side of the dining room is the small sitting spot in the kitchen. My client and I share a mutual love of Chinois...a touch here and there is happy happy happy.
We both fell for the lacquer-red toile for a small shade, and complete with a zebra needlepoint rug.
A set of old wing backs are now covered in indoor/outdoor polka dots and look completely refreshed!

One more charming space that saw some fun additions is the tucked-away home office, with all of the original wood moldings. We added the mod Moroccan rug along with gray linen panels and salmon trim...tres' chic indeed!

Hope you guys have a fabulous Monday....stay tuned for more next week!
Oh, and head over to ShopMGD on Instagram for some super cute original artwork!!!

A Coral and Navy Sunporch

Anyone dreaming of sunnier skies and warmer days?
I am not one to despise the cold, but this dreary weather has me wishing for more Spring-like days and a chance to play outside.

I love sharing what I've got going on with you guys, but to be honest, blogging takes a lot of time. I love showing you the befores and afters of my clients' spaces, but taking the photos, editing, (sometimes re-taking photos), posting them, and coming up with something you guys may find interesting to say about them every time can take a lot of time.
My blog is a fun place to share what I like, love, and a few new discoveries here and there. However, it also serves as my portfolio, showing my ideas, how they translate into a client's home, and the way things magically happen.

My process with my clients involves a lot of steps.
I wanted to share an {abbreviated} version of how everything works here at MGD.
_______________________________________

Step One: Meeting - in-person (unless you're an e-design client)
Here, I listen to your wishes/desires/goals, and I share my initial thoughts on the project. I take measurements, photos, and notes.

Step Two: After our meeting, I make a big punchlist/outline for the project that provides links to things I think you need or can order yourself. I take a lot of time finding things for clients. A. Lot.
Ordering fabric samples, studying my paint chart, choosing proportionate pieces.
Everything I suggest has a reason.

Step Three: Upon approval of my mood boards and punch list, we make a fabric order, furniture order, and wait. And wait. For it all to come in, to be made, etc.
This step can be the absolute longest ever. Sometimes fabrics aren't available anymore, or there's not enough yardage, or my workroom is backed up, or my upholster is super busy. This step can actually take up to 6 months if we keep getting curve balls.
When everything is ready, or most of it, I will come and do a big install. Most of the time, it takes a couple of visits to wrap everything up. I love doing my own installs so as to make sure its all done the way it should be. And I like to see it all in person too.

I rarely show the nitty gritty when it comes to my job, because truthfully, it overshadows all the great, fun things about what I do. But, there are a million trips to the upholsterer, equally as many deliveries from my workroom, a ton of emails, texts, and PayPal invoices sprinkled in there too. Sometimes my clients are patient and sometimes they aren't.
Sometimes they do what I say and sometimes they don't.
:)))))

Either way, my job is amazing and I have a ton of fun, so that's really all I can ask for, right?

To finish this long explanation, I wanted to show the most fun first step in my job:

The Mood Board

This shows a client how a room will look and feel (for the most part) and how the pieces work together. I use a simple program on my iPad that beats the ever-living heck outta those big presentation boards we labored over in college.

Back to the original purpose of this post: Showing you guys my plan for a client's bright and crisp, preppy sun porch. It will double as a home office and reading space.
I am kinda crazy over the fun contrast of the classic navy and pretty coral, all balanced with stark white.

A Handsome Home Office: Before & After

It's been such a treat to work with this client. Really, I love all of my clients.
But, transforming this home office into a space for her husband has been fun to do!

My client and I have known each other for a long time, so working with her has been easy and fun, and as a bonus I get to see their sweeter than sugar baby girl each time I come over.

Here's our BEFORE;
kinda a catch-all room for books, the computer, sports memorabilia, and hand me downs.

On the must-have list:
- a desk
- a place for books
- seating to read

AFTER:
I love the way this room came together!

The trio of industrial-style book shelves give plenty of room for books and other accessories.

The framed flag deserved a place of honor. It now hangs above an old settee from the garage, covered in a classic cream and gray ticking. Zinc-topped end tables pop with green gourd lamps atop them.

A black iron bar cart is a nice resting spot for cocktail glasses and a decanter collection.

The preppy navy and white print fabric frames the windows and adds maja drama to the room.

A mix of textures pull together the handsome look for the home office.

I love the comfy, camel leather club chairs and red flannel pillows.
Makes me want to curl up and read!

Happy September 1st Everyone!
